Before you arrive

Your first visit.

A first visit is a longer conversation than you're used to — usually 60 to 90 minutes — and it ends with a treatment plan tailored to you. Here's what to expect.

i.

Schedule by phone

Call (207) 767-0005 with your insurance card on hand. We'll spend a few minutes understanding what's going on, verify your benefits if you're using insurance for acupuncture, and book you with the right clinician.

5–10 minutes
ii.

Brief paperwork

Download the New Patient Health History form and HIPAA Privacy Policy below and complete them before you arrive — it gives us more time together for the visit itself. If you'd rather fill them out at the office, that's fine too; we'll budget the extra minutes.

iii.

Intake conversation

The longest part of the visit. We'll go through your history, current concerns, medications, supplements, sleep, digestion, stress, and goals. The questions sometimes seem unrelated — they're not. Both Eastern and naturopathic medicine read patterns across systems, so the picture matters.

30–45 minutes
iv.

Treatment

If acupuncture is part of the plan, we'll do a treatment that day. The needles are about the diameter of a cat's whisker — most patients don't feel the insertion. You'll rest with the needles in for around 25 minutes; many people fall asleep.

v.

Plan & follow-up

Before you leave, we'll talk through the plan: how often to come in, any herbs or supplements, and what to expect over the next few visits. Healing takes time. We'll be honest about the timeline.

5–10 minutes

What to bring

  • Your insurance card (for acupuncture).
  • A list of current medications and supplements, with dosages.
  • Recent labs or imaging if you have them.
  • Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing — many treatment points are on the lower legs and forearms.
  • Skip the heavy meal an hour or two before. A light snack is fine.

Forms

Please download both forms, complete them, and bring them with you. Filling them out ahead of time means more of your appointment is spent on you — not on paperwork. They're also available at the office if you prefer.

A note on insurance

We accept most insurance plans for acupuncture treatments. Coverage and copays vary; we'll verify benefits before your first visit so there are no surprises. Naturopathic visits are typically self-pay — we provide superbills you can submit yourself for potential reimbursement.
